'Superman', de stripheld van DC Comics, werd een filmlegende van de 20ste eeuw toen acteur Christopher Reeve gestalte gaf aan dit personage in de gelijknamige films. Superman werd vorig jaar in Vlaanderen de nieuwe eeuw binnengeloodst met de serie 'Smallville', die de tienerjaren van Clark Kent belicht. 'Smallville' brengt hoogst entertainend science fictiondrama. De jonge Clark Kent ontdekt gaandeweg zijn superkrachten en heeft een vriendschapsband met de jonge tycoon Lex Luthor, die later zijn aartsvijand zal worden. In de nieuwe jaargang worden de jeugdige avonturen van Clark Kent verder uitgediept : zijn liefde voor Lana, zijn unieke band met zijn adoptie-ouders, ... Clark ontdekt steeds meer zijn uitzonderlijke krachten, maar het motto van deze reeks blijft behouden : 'No Tights, No Flights'. Acteur en ex-model Tom Welling zullen we in 'Smallville' nooit te zien krijgen in het blauwe pakje noch door het luchtruim zien vliegen. Maar het is net dat wat 'Smallville' uniek maakt. In de V.S. scoorde seizoen 2 gemiddeld 8,5 miljoen kijkers en was er een duidelijke stijging in de kijkcijfers van de oudere doelgroepen. Een held voor jong én oud, dus.
